How to Get Here
By Air: Saarbrücken airport services primarily charter flights, so if travelling from abroad, you are advised to fly into either Frankfurt international airport or Luxembourg.
When travelling from the Frankfurt airport to Saarbruecken, it is not necessary to book train tickets ahead of time (which could be unfortunate if flight plans change); they can be purchased upon arrival at the train station, which is located at Frankfurt airport (allow at least 15 minutes to walk from your arrival gate (or baggage claim) to a train stop at the airport).
Two types of trains go from Frankfurt Airport to Saarbruecken Hbf: an InterCity (IC), a speedier train which sometimes involves a transfer at Mannheim Hbf, and a Regional train that is direct (with stops en route). Either journey takes about two-and-a-half hours. The two trains leave from different stations at Frankfurt Airport; find an information desk, and ask there which train travels next, and where that train station is. Once at the station, purchase your ticket (Class 2 is fine), and you'll soon be on your way to Saarbruecken.
